Vehicle tracking devices operate with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. To determine location, the GPS receiver captures signals from GPS satellites orbiting the earth.
Placement of the GPS tracking device is important because it will affect the accuracy of the readings and the quality of GPS reception. Usually the best performance is achieved when the receiver, or its antenna, has a view of the sky with few obstructions; or it receives signals reflected off the ground.
Generally, GPS signals will travel unobstructed through materials such as glass, plastic, rubber, fiberglass, carpeting and cardboard. The receiver should not be entirely surrounded by metal or concrete.
We recommend that the user test the vehicle tracking device at several locations on the vehicle to determine the best reception for the desired level of concealment.

Location Ratings for Vehicle Tracking Devices
- Prime location for GPS tracking device placement. Will result in the best signal reception and data accuracy.
- Signal reception should be good and favorable, but not optimal.
- Use only when other locations are not desired or available.
The vehicle tracking device should be placed on a clean surface. The powerful magnet will hold securely on a flat piece of metal, however use of the magnet is not necessary. It does not improve reception. Placement in a secure place such as the glove box is adequate.
Placement Options:
Inside the vehicle
* Optimal mounting location due to proximity to window and low chance of detection.
Outside the vehicle
** Some bumper frames and brackets are not made of solid steel. Test magnet strength in these areas.
*** If mounting near the engine compartment, keep the device away from sources of heat.
IMPORTANT
When removing a vehicle tracking device that has been magnetically mounted, slightly tilt the unit to the side before pulling it off. This will help break the magnetic bond and avoid stress on the battery compartment.
