Bank Robber Caught Using GPS Tracking Device
Aided by a hidden GPS tracking device, Northeast District Buffalo police arrested 24-year-old Angelique Guillory last Friday afternoon for the robbery of a Bank of America branch at East Delavan and Bailey.
Police say that Guillory handed the teller a note demanding money, then fled with around $2,500 in cash. Â Unfortunately for the bank robber, she never realized that the teller had covertly stashed a small GPS tracking device into the bag along with the money. Â Thanks to quick police work and the activated GPS tracking device, Detective Joy Jermain, Detective Steven Turner, and Officer Antoine Lanier were able to follow Guillory turn-by-turn throughout the Bailey-Delevan area. Â Ultimately, they apprehended the unfortunate robber and the stolen money in a garbage tote on Arden Avenue, just a few blocks away from the bank.
Mayor Byron W. Brown asserts, “Over the past year, the Buffalo Police Department has been installing GPS tracking technology into patrol vehicles, and today is a great example of how valuable this new technology is to our anti-crime effort.  We continue to upgrade our public safety capabilities, which strengthens our ability to fight crime and improve our residents’ quality of life.”
This was the first time that a GPS tracking device has been used in the Buffalo, NY area to capture a bank robber; however, such technology has been used successfully by police departments in many other parts of the nation.
Angelique Guillory is still in police custody, and she is being charged with first-degree robbery and criminal possession of stolen property.
