Bank Robbers Busted Thanks to GPS

Bank Robberies Becoming Less ‘Profitable’

GPS Shines Light on Would-be Thieves

Source Acquired Via My Fox Atlanta, May 20, 2010, Hiram, Georgia – Attempting to rob a bank these days is not as easy as it once was – this is the lesson that two men in Hiram, Georgia, learned on the morning of May 19, 2010. The men robbed a Bank of North Georgia in Hiram, but were quickly tracked by police who used a GPS tracker.

The Unseen Squealer

Unbeknownst to the robbers, the stack of money that was stolen from the bank contained a small GPS tracker. After robbing the bank, the two men fled the scene with a large bag of money stashed inside of the trunk of a car. Shortly thereafter, police were told by the bank that the stack of money stolen was equipped with a GPS tracker.

The GPS tracking device led police to a town home where the first robber was instantly apprehended. Witness Bill Rouse told press that the police talked with the suspect for a moment, and then “…the next thing I (he) know (knew) they were putting handcuffs on him.” Police found the second bank robber in an apartment complex not too far from the town home where the first robber was arrested. The two thieves will appear in court on Wednesday.

Police told press that without the help of the GPS tracking device, the two thieves may have escaped. The device that was hidden inside of the money was barely detectable, though it did its job well. A GPS tracking device can provide authorities with the exact location of an object, vehicle, or person. By using computer software, locating a GPS tracking device is easy to do.

GPS Proves its Worth Again

In the case of the Hiram bank robbers, the two thieves never stood a chance against the GPS tracker. Various banks across the world have begun stashing GPS trackers inside of stacks of money. While the cost of a GPS tracking device is minimal, tracking down bags of stolen bank money is priceless. GPS tracking devices can be used in a number of different ways, and these devices are constantly helping police retrieve stolen goods of every kind.

This is not the first bank robbery foiled by a GPS tracker. Numerous bank robbers have been caught with the help of GPS tracking devices. It’s safe to state that many more bank robbers will be caught thanks to GPS tracking technology. Presently, both suspects are being held without any hope of any bond at the Paulding County Detention Center.
