As a result of the missed court date, Revel has ordered Lohan to wear a GPS tracking bracelet equipped with a blood alcohol level device. Should Lohan try to remove the device, violate parole, or use drugs or alcohol, she could be sent to prison for a fair amount of time.

The GPS tracking device that Lohan is currently wearing allows law enforcement authorities to track her every move around the clock. By sending location reports to law enforcement officials every thirty minutes, Lohan has no chance of escaping the law. Additionally, the bracelet that Lohan is wearing also reports on her present blood alcohol levels. Should Lohan consume any type of alcoholic beverage, the sweat from her skin will cause the GPS device to alert police immediately.
GPS tracking bracelets that include blood alcohol monitors were devised to keep criminals in-check. As Judge Marsha Revel clearly stated, celebrities who engage in criminal activities are not above the law. California has been using GPS technology to track all kinds of criminals from gang members to sex offenders, and a starlet who violates the law is no exception to this rule. Even though the bracelet that Lohan is wearing is currently reserved for criminals, many parents throughout North America have been inquiring as to whether or not these devices are available for retail sale.
Practical Applications for Families Explored
As parents throughout North America watch Judge Revel take control of Lohan’s out of control life, many can’t help but wonder whether or not tracking their own teen would be worthwhile. Kathleen Brown, a spokesperson for Alcohol Monitoring Systems Inc., told press that there might be “…a market down the road” for selling GPS/alcohol monitoring systems to parents of reckless teens. While Lohan is currently getting a lot of press due to her new GPS fashion accessory, she is not the first celebrity to be handed a device made by Alcohol Monitoring Systems Inc.
Basketball player Jayson Williams and rapper Eve have both sported the GPS ankle bracelet look. It’s also safe to assume that more celebrities will be given the GPS treatment in the near future. The idea behind the device is to help those criminals who have alcohol-related offenses control their drinking habits. Since the GPS bracelets prevent people from drinking, those who are considered alcoholics may be able to give up drinking altogether.
