GPS Devices Track Student Travelers around the World
System Provides Multiple Purposes
Safety, Communications and Monitoring Made Easy
It used to be that when one went on a vacation abroad, communications were few and far between. Now that has all changed with the advent of the cell phone. Additionally, once a person experiences travel with wireless communications, it seems like less of a trip since constant contact can be kept with those left behind.
There is a program, however, that is making the best use of GPS Tracking and communications options for students who take part in their global travel experiences. The People to People Ambassador Programs is in charge of the system and uses it in important ways.
Keeping Track of the Program
The programs are designed to give students a wide range of experiences in other cultures and locations. Because of the inherent dangers that exist in such programs, the addition of GPS devices makes a lot of sense.
Key features of the system include:
GPS enabled cell phone for the instructor in each group. This not only allows the instructor to keep in touch with the company on the progress of the trip, but also allows them to have instant access to parents and guardians if necessary.
Optional GPS enabled cell phone for each student. A rental program is available for each student who is enrolled.
Central location for the monitoring of the travels of each group. The People to People Ambassador organization has teamed up with a monitoring company which provides 24 x 7 monitoring of each phone that is issued. In addition, a website is established so that monitoring can be performed there as well by the company and parents of the students alike.
Text options for parents through the common website to help keep in touch. Parents can send text messages to their students through the website and the students can respond back.
Account monitoring and alerts should the student incur high charges. Parents are given an account monitoring page so that they can watch and make sure that the rental charges on the cell phone do not exceed desired limits.
Location updates every 15 minutes for those watching via website. The website provides updates every 15 minutes on the progress of the trip. These updates can be combined to provide a map of the travels.
Monitoring can be performed by individual or the entire group. Options for monitoring one student, or the entire group is made available.
This seems like a lot of overkill, but when families are involved in such a venture, there cannot be enough precaution and planning to keep those involved safe. This is a program that delivers a lot of value to the students involved – GPS is a part of that value.
