“How’s My Driving?”
“How’s My Driving?”
At some point or another, we’ve all been a victim of one of those commercial service vehicles with the bumper sticker that reads, “How’s My Driving?”
Normally we don’t pay too much attention to the driving behaviors of these commercial vehicles until we get stuck behind one of them, usually in a one-lane stretch of road. We want to punch the gas pedal and pass them up, but we often don’t because of the insistent fear that we’ll end up in a head-on collision with an oncoming car on the opposite side of traffic… or because our cars don’t have the horsepower to do so.
And so we’re forced to endure, and to  patiently behind the service truck or 18-wheeler for what seems like hours as it drives well below the speed limit. All the while, our eyes continuously glance over at the yellow and black bumper sticker that reads, “How’s My Driving? Call: 1-888-XXX-XXXX.” And every time we read that bumper sticker, we’re tempted to call and complain about the driver’s supposed lack of awareness and courtesy for other drivers on the road, namely ourselves.
For those of you who read our blog section on a regular basis, you may be asking, “Why the sudden change in content?” You see, this is exactly what I encountered on my way to work this morning. I was running a little late and while navigating my way through traffic, I inevitably found myself stuck behind a commercial dump truck, which always seems to happen when I’m in a hurry. And of course, the truck was driving below the speed the limit on a one-lane road.
My eyes caught the “How’s My Driving” bumper sticker and I was tempted to call and complain, when in reality the driver had done nothing wrong. He wasn’t swerving or speeding, and he performed all the necessary stops in an appropriate manner. If anything I should have complimented him on his driving, especially compared to the way I was driving this morning.
Now, I’m guessing that most of you can empathize with the way I was feeling during my morning commute. We’ve all been in similar situations before.
However, there are those instances when we find ourselves behind a reckless commercial driver – those that pose a danger to us and others on the road. They disregard the rules of the road by swerving or speeding and/or making unnecessary and excessive stops along the road when they aren’t suppose to.
Real-Time Solutions for Fleet Businesses
Driver safety and efficiency are significant issues for businesses that rely heavily on the effectiveness of its commercial vehicle fleet. Not only do driving behaviors affect the public image of the company, they can be extremely costly as well.
Fleet businesses lose thousands of dollars each year on wasted time and fuel costs, largely due to the ineffectiveness of their drivers. Dispatchers and fleet managers who are in charge of overseeing large fleets, constantly struggle with keeping their drivers accountable to their designated routes.
One way to combat fleet inefficiency is to install real-time GPS tracking systems, such as the SilverCloud from LandAirSea.
The SilverCloud GPS tracking system provides precise and accurate vehicle locations, allowing fleet managers and dispatchers the ability to track their entire fleet of vehicles in real-time without having to contact them individually in order to determine their location. With the web-browser based software, powered by Google Maps, fleet managers will be able to see their entire fleet on an easy-to-use and up-to-date mapping interface.
The Routing Utility option gives them the ability to send directions via text message or email so that drivers are able to find the fastest and most efficient routes, which is ideal for industries such as limousine and taxi services.
With the Geo-Fencing option, users will be able to set virtual boundaries or zones on the online map, so that whenever a fleet vehicle enters or leaves that designated zone, the user will be notified via text message or email.
Fleet managers and dispatchers will also be able to determine the speed, route, arrival, departure and will be able to see if their trucks have made any excessive or unnecessary stops with the historical playback option, or through the detailed printable activity reports.
Businesses will also have the option of sharing the real-time locations of its entire fleet of vehicles to the public on their website or Facebook page through the ShareSpot option. This will provide an added level of visibility and accountability for its drivers.
These along with many other features, makes the SilverCloud real-time GPS tracker an ideal solution for fleet businesses.
With the SilverCloud real-time GPS tracking system, fleet managers will know how their drivers are driving before you have a chance to call and complain.
