LandAirSea Moves Headquarters
LandAirSea Systems Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking solutions since 1994, moved its corporate offices in March to Woodstock, Ill. from Cary.
The company now operates from 2040 Dillard Court in Woodstock’s Cold Headers Industrial Park, off McConnell Road. Recently vacating the 770 Industrial Drive, Cary address which it occupied for the last three year, the move represents a facility expansion of more than six times the square footage. The company originally leased approximately 2,000 square feet in Cary and now occupies 13,000 square feet of new construction.
“This was a massive expansion, consistent with our growth over the last several years and necessary as we prepare upcoming product launches,” said Steven Moehling, vice president of sales. “It required expansion of physical space as well as staging for retail growth expectations. It also represents our investment in the company as this was a strategic acquisition.”
LandAirSea Systems was started in 1994 by Robert Wagner, Moehling and Lin Xu. In 1998, headquarters was moved permanently to Illinois from Carlsbad, Calif. The company also has satellite offices in Boston, Mass. and Houston, Texas.
LandAirSea’s product line includes both passive and active vehicle tracking devices and their supporting software. The passive devices will store hundreds of hours of data in the GPS receiver’s memory, recording information such as time departed, time en route, addresses and duration of stops, miles driven, and speed. The data is then downloaded via USB port to the user’s PC and displayed over an animated street map, satellite image via Google Earth, or in text format. LandAirSea’s active system uses the latest GPS and wireless technology to record a vehicle’s exact location in real-time, second-by-second. Unlike the passive technology, the active system’s data is accessed remotely and can be stored indefinitely.
The company’s customers include small businesses, law enforcement agencies and a growing number of consumers, including parents concerned about their teenager’s driving habits. Its products are for sale at major automotive and electronics retailers, including Pep Boys and select independent NAPA Auto Parts stores.
In 2008, LandAirSea Systems was named to Inc.’s 500 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America.  LandAirSea was ranked 341st. The ranking was based on sales growth from 2004 to 2007. LandAirSea experienced more than 850 percent growth in that three-year time frame.
