LandAirSea VP Moehling Recaps Electronics Show

Attendance was greater than organizers predicted at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas; proof, according to the Consumer Electronics Association, that despite an extended economic recession, consumers are demanding and willing to spend their dollars on electronic gadgetry that entertains them or makes their lives easier.

The square footage of show space was scaled back this year, in light of current economic conditions. Even so, the world’s largest consumer technology trade show drew 120,000 people over the course of four days, which was 6 percent higher from attendance a year earlier. Approximately 2,500 exhibitors showcased their latest technological innovations at the 43rd annual event, including Internet-connected televisions, tablet-sized computers with touch screens, 3D imaging and gaming, and in-car technologies.

Among the attendees was Steven Moehling, Vice President of Sales for LandAirSea Systems Inc. in Woodstock, IL. Moehling has been representing LandAirSea Systems at CES for several years. The vehicle tracking system company executive said that his reason for attending the show was to support several dealer/distributors that are selling LandAirSea tracking products and to network with potential new buyers who are looking for GPS tracking products that provide a competitive edge.

“GPS tracking continues to ride the cusp of the technological wave, as consumers and businesses become increasingly mobile,” said Moehling. “Consider asset tracking, for instance. Due to advancements in engineering, these systems provide safety and security in a cost-effective solution. The demand for remote communications potentially opens the door for GPS tracking to be one of the next hot products in upcoming shows.”

In a market where many companies are joining in response to growing demand and opportunity, LandAirSea remains a pioneer in the development of passive and real-time GPS tracking systems. The company was founded in 1994, and was the first to introduce a passive vehicle tracking device to the consumer market. Its current suite of GPS tracking devices includes the GPS Tracking Key and GPS Tracking Key Pro®, both passive data loggers; and the Victoria GPS Tracking System, a real-time GPS tracking unit.

Moehling offered another reason he attended the show. He was interested in getting a look at new products before they hit the consumer market. About 20,000 new products spent time in the spotlight at the massive show.

Three-dimensional television attracted a lot of attention this year, Moehling said. Curious, he spent a few minutes checking out the technology, and he said he was both surprised and a little disappointed.

“It provides the depth perception you would expect. But it still requires that viewers wear cumbersome eyeglasses to achieve the effect; and it is extremely cost prohibitive.”

Moehling has been closely involved in sales development for technology-based companies for approximately 20 years. More than ever before, Moehling said, he has noticed the consumer’s desire to be closely connected, to save money and time, and to minimize human impact on the environment.

GPS tracking systems help people in all these areas, Moehling said. Vehicle tracking systems use satellite signals to locate and report a vehicle’s position, within feet of accuracy. They help drivers cut down on speeding, excessive idling, wasted and unauthorized trips, and, as a consequence, they save money in fuel, maintenance and labor costs.

LandAirSea’s powerfully-engineered vehicle tracking systems are widely used by average citizens, law enforcement agencies, several branches of the federal government, and businesses of all sizes.
