More Communities Implementing GPS Tracking in School Buses
Safety is Priority One for School Bus Systems
Allows Drivers to Avoid Distractions While They are Driving
The advent of cell phones was a real boon for the business of delivering children to and from school on the many buses around the nation. It allowed drivers to have instant voice access to authorities should an event require their input. Most buses already had installed radio systems that allowed communications between buses and the base, but these were expensive compare to cell phones. Plus, they were limited to only being able to contact one place.
Now, the newest trend in school bus safety and security is to install cameras with GPS Tracking systems to provide both a visual record as well as a data record of bus trips. Compared to the level of risk in school bus transportation, these systems are a good investment.
These GPS and camera systems serve as the eyes to help monitor and report on incidents that occur while drivers are running their routes. These systems can even pick up things that they miss because their focus is on driving.
One could call these systems elaborate baby-sitting tools, but there is no doubt that the information that they provide is invaluable.
A Video Record
Being able to go back and review activities on a bus to verify activities is worth the price of the system. Bus riders often are involved in personal incidents that must be confronted. A video record of actions can be used against those who are in violation of rules which can result in suspension from being able to use bus transportation.
GPS Tracking Rules
Not only does GPS Tracking provide a data record of routes run, it also allows for real-time tracking. With the right model deployed, all bus routes can be monitored from a single PC. Watching these routes can help administrators to know if they are running behind or if there is a potential problem due to the bus stopping for a long period of time during the circuit. These systems can also be outfitted to allow parents to track bus routes as well.
Safety and security are the primary drivers behind these systems but there are other benefits as well. GPS Tracking can provide data for tracking maintenance schedules of buses in a fleet.
The benefits are too great to ignore and we will continue to see more of these systems deployed in the coming months. It is now a necessary system for safety and the peace of mind for the school systems and parents as well.
