Business Uses of Devices Show the Way
No Longer a Nice-to-Have Technology – Now Mandatory
Technology is being deployed into more places in our society than ever dreamed possible. In fact, if it were not for some of the uses and implementations, it is not a stretch to say that businesses in our economy would be in worse shape and many more would have closed their doors by now.
Proof is in the Numbers
Farfetched reasoning? Not if you consider the following ways that GPS Tracking is impacting businesses.
Fleet Operations Management. Is there a better tool for monitoring and managing fleet operations? Name one system that has had the kind of impact on this type of business. Maybe the cell phone, but even at that, it does not provide location information. Being able to turn your operations on a dime during business hours to better serve your customers is made possible by the use of GPS Tracking systems.
Greater Control over Assets. It used to be that once your vehicles left the business site, you were in the dark about how they were being used and where they were going. The effect on control alone has been a great advantage for businesses who are trying to squeeze every possible penny of profit from their business that they can. Not to mention the ability to be able to recover from theft in a matter of hours rather than days, weeks, months or maybe never. Insurance companies, too, are throwing their weight behind these tracking devices to by offering reductions in insurance premiums. Taking Technology Along
The Best Uses of GPS Tracking
Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world at 29,035 feet high. A teenager, 13 year-old Jordan Romero, trekked to the peak and proceeded to call his mother from a satellite based phone to tell her the wonderful news: “mom, I’m calling you from the top of the world.”
The mother, of course, was happy – especially that he had made it safely. The way she knew this was from his call, but also she tracked his progress via a GPS tracking system. (more…)

There are some among us who are habitually punctual and keep to a schedule with military-like precision. Put one of these perfectionists on the road and frustration ensues. A pokey driver, road construction or rush hour can throw a monkey wrench in a perfectly-planned day.
For even the most easy-going of drivers, school buses are a source of irritation on the roadways. God bless them, we wouldn’t want to hurt a hair on the heads of those sweet passengers. But boy, do those bus drivers add precious minutes to our commutes to work.
Now, a study in Great Britain proves what working folk have been suspecting for years: average travel times are longer when schools are in session. (more…)

A motorist tracks a speeding bus. New players in the car track market are offering prices as low as Sh15,000 to cover a car for a whole year. JACOB OWITI
Competition is intensifying globally in the vehicle tracking market, with increasingly tech-savvy consumers enjoying falling prices and preferring around-the-clock real-time tracking systems to those that are prompted or “pinged” in the event of a vehicle heist.
Business Daily Africa, an online version of the newspaper Business Daily, published out of Kenya, Nairobi, reports vehicle tracking system manufacturers are reviewing their price structures because the world market is being inundated with products from North America, China and Europe.
The main solutions in the tracking system game in Africa are Stolen Vehicle Recovery Systems (known as SVRS) and those that are based on the Global Positioning System and Global System for Mobil Communications (GPS/GSM). (more…)

Are the employees of your business resisting the adoption of GPS tracking technology for fleet management, out of fear that their every move would be monitored?
This common reservation can be put aside if your management can demonstrate that a vehicle tracking system will benefit the company and its mobile workforce equally. And the goal should be communicated from the day the program is incorporated into the business plan. (more…)

Would U.S. lawmakers be better stewards of taxpayer money if they knew their activities were being followed with GPS tracking devices? After reading reports of lavish spending by elected officials in Scotland, the American public might agree.
Reporters from the Wall Street Journal tailed a dozen U.S. lawmakers throughout a five-day conference in Scotland and published the findings in the newspaper and on line Dec. 16. They observed the politicians on numerous occasions, mixing business with pleasure. Flagrant spending included free transportation by Air Force plane, a rented presidential suite in the hotel where they were booked, spa treatments, and dinners at the region’s finest restaurants. Wives went along too at the taxpayers’ expense.
The House members did legitimately meet with foreign dignitaries to discuss international security, as was the purpose of the trip. But after being wined and dined, eleven of the 12 U.S. politicians skipped out on the conference two days early, the article claims.
The biting report does nothing to dispel the long-standing belief that politics breeds corruption. (more…)

When vehicle tracking devices are mentioned, most people immediately think of GPS tracking (Global Positioning System). Though it only has been in public use for the last decade or so, GPS tracking technology has made big changes in the way commercial businesses are run.
The reason GPS tracking is so popular is because it is powerful, accurate and reliable. It finds the exact location of a person, vehicle or any object on Earth based on the readings from satellite signals. Originally, the technology was developed for U.S. military defense training and maneuvers, but today it has far-reaching benefits in the everyday world. GPS tracking has an equal impact in the consumer market and in a commercial setting for fleet management.
Commercial Use of GPS Vehicle Tracking Devices
Most business owners would find it difficult to live without GPS tracking. It is no longer a luxury, but a necessity when the goal is to cut operating costs and to dispatch goods and services more quickly to customers. The “cherry on the cake” with a GPS tracking system, is it is an efficient system if a vehicle or valuable piece of equipment is lost or stolen.
For the sake of this analysis, consider a real-time GPS tracking solution such as the Victoria GPS Tracking System offered by LandAirSea Systems. The Victoria gives GPS tracking position updates every 10 seconds. It is a 100 percent Web-based tracking system with no annual service agreement.
When fleet cars, vans and related equipment are considered important assets of an organization, vehicle tracking devices will increase business profits and help monitor employee performance.
Theft recovery: If your vehicle is stolen or somebody is using it without authorization, GPS tracking could have the vehicle quickly and easily traced. The precise location, time, speed and direction are reported “live” through frequent GPS tracking position updates. Most vehicle tracking systems also have built-in geo-fencing abilities. A virtual “fence” is programmed around certain areas on a map. If a GPS tracking vehicle travels beyond that perimeter, an alert is sent to a manager in a central dispatch area. This might prevent a theft in progress.

WOODSTOCK (Wednesday, March 25, 2009) – Wasted trips and wasted time. Few things are as irritating or unnecessary detriments to business; yet they are so easily eliminated with Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking solutions.
Business owners have always had to place a fair amount of trust that their company-owned vehicles, and the employees that drive them, are where they are supposed to be and doing what they are assigned to do. Unauthorized stops cause delayed delivery and service. Â Speeding and overlapping routes waste fuel and put wear and tear on a vehicle. Each on their own doesn’t amount to a major error or loss, but collectively, they shave money from the company’s bottom line.
