Child Molester Escapes Because Monitoring Bracelet Doesn’t Have GPS Tracking

It took a Great Escape to prove to folks in Australia that a criminal’s natural urge to flee justice is maybe a bit stronger than his right to privacy.

A convicted child molester has escaped an extended supervised stay facility near Melbourne. Red-faced police authorities admit that, while the criminal was fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet as a stipulation of his probation, they do not know where he has gone. Not All GPS Data Loggers are Created Equal

Electronic data loggers are a perfect GPS tracking solution when details are important, but immediacy is not an issue.

Parents and caregivers want to do everything they can to keep their children from being snatched; or, if they do disappear, to find them quickly, unharmed. Parents might be giving stronger consideration to GPS tracking devices or some other kind of emergency locator for their children.

GPS tracking is a technology already being used for child tracking. There are several small, portable, battery-operated GPS devices made for vehicle tracking that can easily be carried by a person. With continued demand, there is promise that the future will bring us even more compact and covert GPS tracking devices. (more…)
