Monitoring of City Police Reveals Bad Things

More Cities Moving to GPS Tracking Devices

Source acquired via Fox 8 News, May 28, 2010, Cleveland, Ohio – many cities throughout the world have begun tracking public employees, and Cleveland is no exception to this rule. Only, the city of Cleveland recently found out just how valuable GPS tracking devices are when two Cleveland policemen neglected to inspect a corpse that was discovered on the side of the road.

A Body Discovered

Cleveland police officers Matthew Prince and David Muniz were instructed to investigate a body found on the side of a major highway on April 5. Using information gathered from a GPS tracker, it was discovered that Muniz and Prince drove past the body, but did not stop to investigate. Later, the two policemen filed a report stating that the body in question was a dead deer. After receiving more phone calls about the body from drivers, police discovered that there was, in fact, a body on the side of the highway. (more…)

Safety is Priority One for School Bus Systems

Allows Drivers to Avoid Distractions While They are Driving

The advent of cell phones was a real boon for the business of delivering children to and from school on the many buses around the nation.  It allowed drivers to have instant voice access to authorities should an event require their input.  Most buses already had installed radio systems that allowed communications between buses and the base, but these were expensive compare to cell phones.  Plus, they were limited to only being able to contact one place.

Now, the newest trend in school bus safety and security is to install cameras with GPS Tracking systems to provide both a visual record as well as a data record of bus trips.  Compared to the level of risk in school bus transportation, these systems are a good investment.

These GPS and camera systems serve as the eyes to help monitor and report on incidents that occur while drivers are running their routes.  These systems can even pick up things that they miss because their focus is on driving.

One could call these systems elaborate baby-sitting tools, but there is no doubt that the information that they provide is invaluable. (more…)

GPS Tracking Will Uncover Dishonest Garbage Truck Drivers

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Something fishy is going on in the refuse department in Vadodara, India.

An internal investigation by the city’s governing council, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, (VMC) seems to indicate that the independent contractors hired to do garbage pickup are padding their wallets by weighing down their loads. The fleet management supervisor proposes to install GPS tracking systems on municipal trucks in an effort to solve the problem.

Vadodara is one of the biggest cities in the Indian state of Guyjarat. It has a population estimated at 1.6 million, and a high industrial base, mostly in chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Garbage pickup is a high priority service in such a densely-populated area. Residents and business owners are not pleased when garbage day passes and their receptacles go untouched. (more…)

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Are the employees of your business resisting the adoption of GPS tracking technology for fleet management, out of fear that their every move would be monitored?

This common reservation can be put aside if your management can demonstrate that a vehicle tracking system will benefit the company and its mobile workforce equally. And the goal should be communicated from the day the program is incorporated into the business plan. (more…)

Traffic Reporting by GPS Tracking Gets an Upgrade

Friday, September 25th, 2009

accidentUnable to break old habits, some drivers still rely on radio reports to warn them that their normally-smooth ride to work is going to hit a snarl ahead. That was the only option a generation ago, but GPS tracking technology has forever changed the way we learn of traffic news. The GPS tracking application on your cell phone or on-board vehicle tracking and navigation system is much more up-to-date and accurate.

GPS tracking and live traffic reports are hot topics among users of vehicle tracking systems, who drive daily at great distances, and want to avoid gridlock at all costs.

Traffic reporting by vehicle tracking is customized for each vehicle, because of course it involves GPS tracking and navigation. A television or radio traffic update reports travel status in a general area.

GPS tracking satellites find you – or more accurately the vehicle tracking receiver in your car – and location is pinpointed on an interactive map. Traffic status is determined by reports from the field and the progress of a particular vehicle is based on vehicle tracking speed and direction.

Up until now, one of the biggest shortcomings of real-time traffic data on a wireless/GPS tracking system is the updating of traffic status. Drivers complain that they are already stuck in traffic when they get an alert. This was because the vehicle tracking reporting system didn’t get enough information fast enough to accurately tell drivers what’s ahead. (more…)
