The contemporary law enforcement agency now has a new collection of investigative tools for battling crime and enhancing efficiency and public safety: GPS tracking technology. And whether contemporary society agrees with it or not, these technologies are redefining the rules and strategies once grounded in the centuries-old conflict of “good guys vs. bad guys”.
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. Initially developed by the U.S. Department of Defense as a navigation technique, GPS consists of a constellation of 24 satellites that can determine a person’s exact location.
Long used by private businesses and individual consumers, GPS tracking systems have significantly impacted the way law enforcement agencies attack all levels of crime in all their varying degrees.
