Keeping the Public Informed
Every year, millions of vehicle owners around the nation fall victim to automobile theft. Although those living in more affluent and historically crime-free areas of the United States may believe they do not have to concern themselves with the threat of vehicle theft, the truth is that no area and no vehicle is off limits to prospective auto thieves. Every year, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NCIB) releases Hot Wheels â a list of the 10 most stolen vehicles in the United States and a comprehensive analysis of vehicle theft data obtained from law enforcement departments nationwide and submitted to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). With the overall number of vehicle thefts continuing to decline domestically, the NCIB points to the ubiquity of GPS tracking technologies as a core component in ensuring that everyday drivers do not become a statistic.
