This scenario is being played out more and more: GPS tracking devices are being planted and used to solve crimes of common theft, etc.  Police are learning how to fight recurrent crimes by using these devices which leads to the capture of unsuspecting perpetrators.

In Louisville, Kentucky, police planted a GPS tracking device to root out a serial robber at a retail chain drugstore.  The suspect was arrested after a police chase which ended in a crash. (more…)

Source acquired via WFIE, April 29, 2010, Frankfort, Kentucky – Many states within the United States have been toying with the idea of allowing judges to order domestic violence offenders to wear GPS tracking bracelets. Today, Governor Steve Beshear has signed a bill called “Amanda’s Bill” that will give Kentucky judges the right to order domestic violence violators to wear a GPS tracking device.

Any domestic violence offender in Kentucky must also stay 500 feet away from victims at all times. Further, any offender who attempts to remove a GPS tracking device will face additional charges. By equipping offenders with a GPS tracker, police can be immediately notified if an abuser comes within 500 feet of a victim. This law gives domestic violence victims who reside in the state of Kentucky some needed assurance. (more…)
