There is a lot of talk lately about laws being enacted on a state-by-state basis that are banning the use of mobile phones and texting while driving.  The main motivation, of course, is safety.  There have been too many incidents of distracted drivers being involved in accidents because their attention is diverted from their primary function – drive the vehicle.

Other nations besides the US are grappling with this issue as well.  It stands to reason that we can only benefit from these devices if we keep from assuming room temperature because of our irresponsibility.

How can we be the beneficiaries of technological implementations with the least amount of risk?  Look at your options.

GPS Navigation is Necessary?

The times that I have spent in a vehicle as a driver accompanied by a GPS Navigation unit found me turning the device off in quick measure.  Not everyone can stand the constant voice instructions (I know, they can be turned off).  Also, the screen represents a distraction – even if it does reside on the dashboard or mounted to the windshield with a suction cup attachment.  Looking at it at the wrong time can have tragic consequences.

Understandingly, these devices are the darlings of the fleet driver world.  These professionals use them every day and are used to how to interact with the devices without killing themselves and others in the process.  Kudos to them.

The rest of us are not so good at it yet.  Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.  I’ll take a paper map any day over one of these – and I’ll only look at it once I stop the vehicle.

Mobile Phones a Distraction?

Long the bane of drivers everywhere is the lowly mobile phone and the distraction that it poses to the task at hand.  This includes the famous texting that is the favored form of communication these days of teens – even while driving.  In fact, it is widely known that most teens are able to text without looking at the keys on the phone.  They are fast at it, too.  But they still have to read the responses on the screen.

Does anyone else lament the poor drivers on our streets and roads these days?  Add to this the distraction of a mobile phone and you have a combination that is too often deadly.

GPS Tracking Fits the Bill!

If you need to track your vehicle and its location, there is no better way than to outfit your car with a GPS Tracking device with the options that you require.

Hidden and secure. These devices are installed under the dash or hood of your car and are out of sight of would-be thieves.  The same cannot be said of GPS Navigation devices that are left on the dashboards of cars everywhere -right there, out in the open, just begging to be stolen.

Always on. GPS Tracking devices are powered by an auto’s battery, but many also have their own internal battery which kicks in if the main power cable to the battery is cut.

Providing data. Need location, speed or direction of travel information?  Need an alert if your vehicle has entered an area that has been marked ‘off-limits’ by you?   GPS Tracking provides all kinds of data which will help make sure your vehicle is being driven properly and that those who are driving it are not venturing into areas in which from which they have been instructed to avoid.   Perfect for teen drivers.

All of this is provided without a single interaction from the driver.

We have not even touched on the vast benefits to businesses and other organizations that need to keep close watch on vehicles in their fleets.  Even though they are probably the best fit for GPS Tracking, they are not the only fit.  GPS Tracking is here to stay.  Make the best use of them in your situation.
