GPS Tracking - L.A.S 3100 Series FAQ
Can I see a demo of the software for the GPS tracking system 3100?
Yes. Go to the Demo tab for instructions on how to see a demo of the gps tracker 3100 series product: Demo Page
Does the GPS Tracking System 3100 come with everything I need, including software?
Yes. The price includes the GPS tracking device, Software with mapping and satellite imagery for the entire U.S. and the download cable to connect the GPS tracker 3100 to your PC.
What is the difference between the GPS Tracking System 3100-INT and the 3100-EXT and where can I mount it?
The 3100-EXT model has an external (EXT) GPS antenna. If you have to place the GPS Tracker 3100 underneath the vehicle and do not have enough room inside bumper you may need the EXT version. For inside the car placement most people get the INT. You can place the INT model in the glove box, in the bumper, under the front or rear dash, and even under the seat. Under the seat placement is not really recommended but we have received numerous reports on how well the GPS Tracker 3100 works even hidden under the seat.
If the batteries go dead before I am able to retrieve the GPS Tracking 3100, will the tracking data be lost?
Of course not. The GPS Tracking system 3100 uses flash memory which does not need a battery backup.
Are the LandAirSea GPS Tracking system 3100-INT or 3100-EXT water-resistant?
The GPS tracking systems are very water-resistant. However we do not guarantee the GPS Tracker 3100 to be 100% water-resistant. When placing the GPS Tracker 3100 on your vehicle, make sure it is not subject to splashing water. Our warranty does not cover water damaged GPS Tracking Systems.
How many days can I expect the GPS Tracking System 3100 to last without the batteries going dead?
With regular alkaline AA batteries you can expect about 36 driving hours. Therefore, if the car drives about an hour a day, the batteries will last for over one month. If you use Energizer Lithium batteries, the batteries will last close to 80 driving hours (2 to 3 months).
How often does the GPS Tracker 3100 record data?
The GPS Tracker 3100 records a data point every second. If you are using the AA batteries to power the GPS Tracking, you can always leave it on this default setting. Decreasing the recording rate does not affect the battery life.

GPS Tracking - L.A.S. GPS tracking system 8100 FAQ
Is the
GPS tracking system 8100 waterproof?
Although the GPS tracking system 8100 comes with three high performance magnets for mounting and o-rings around the major openings, we do not consider the GPS tracking system 8100 waterproof. It will effectively receive GPS signals under the vehicle but it is the customer’s responsibility to protect the GPS Tracking system from road hazards including inclement weather condition. The GPS tracking system 8100 warranty does not cover water damage or lost GPS Tracking Systems.
How long
does the Lithium-Ion battery last on the GPS tracking system 8100?
Since the GPS tracking system 8100 is motion activated, battery life will depend upon the number of hours the vehicle is in motion per day and the frequency of the transmission updates. Please check the specifications page for more details.
Will
changing the updating frequency affect the battery life on the GPS tracking system 8100?
Yes. The more frequent the GPS tracking system 8100 updates, the more resources are needed to capture and transmit the information.
Can the
GPS tracking system 8100 be hard-wired to the vehicle?
Yes. The GPS tracking system 8100 comes with an external power port and cable to connect to an always-on hot lead on your vehicle.
Will the
internal battery take over if the GPS tracking system 8100 is hard-wired and
the vehicle loses power?
Yes. The internal battery will charge from the vehicle’s charging system and will assume full GPS tracking system 8100 system operation if the 12V power is lost.
How long
does it take to install the GPS Tracking System 8100?
If used as a portable system, it will only take seconds as the GPS tracking system 8100 is completely portable. If you want to hard-wire the GPS tracking system 8100 to your vehicle, the most common location is underneath the dash. This will provide for the 12V connectivity and provide a secure location. If you wish to install the GPS tracking system 8100 in this location, you may want to consider taking the GPS Tracking system 8100 to a qualified audio alarm installer or mechanic. Installing the GPS tracking system 8100 inside the engine compartment is not recommended as the device will be surrounded by metal and impedes the GPS reception.
Where
can I place the GPS tracking system 8100?
The GPS tracking system 8100 incorporates the same sensitivity as our Land Air Sea GPS Tracking Key. Therefore, it can easily be hidden in most areas within the vehicle or even underneath the vehicle against the steel frame (please see the following statement regarding waterproofing).
How
strong are the magnetic mounts on the GPS tracking system 8100?
LandAirSea GPS tracking system utilizes high performance magnets providing effective mounting of the device. This are the same magnets utilized in the GPS Tracking Key series. Since the GPS tracking system 8100 is larger than the GPS Tracking Key, we have mounted three magnets to the bottom of the case.
What are
the different plans of service?
There are three different plans to choose from. Plan A is $14.95, Plan B $29.95, and the unlimited data plan (Plan C) is $59.95. These plans are per GPS Tracking system purchased. There is also a one-time activation fee of $ 19.95 and the first month of service is charged in advance.
How do I
determine which plan is best for me?
Please check the specifications page to determine which plan is best for you.
Is there
a contract for the monitoring service?
Yes. Since the GPS tracking system 8100 transmits the GPS data over the Verizon Wireless® network, a data plan is required for a period of twelve (12) months. Once the initial contract is complete, the service will become month to month (please see our terms and conditions below).
What are
the terms and conditions of the monthly service?
The terms and conditions of the monthly service coincide with the Verizon Wireless® data plan service. Since the GPS tracking system 8100 is not a cell phone, some of the conditions do not apply. You can review these conditions by clicking the following link. LandAirSea Terms and Conditions
Can I
still get second by second data with a lower cost data
plan?
Yes. One of the key benefits of the Land Air Sea GPS tracking system 8100 is the ability to change the rate of tracking on the software. Most systems require manual configuration. However, each time the GPS tracking system 8100 transmits data, it is utilizing bandwidth. You will have to use this feature sparingly if you have a $ 14.95 or $ 29.95 plan.
How do I
know if I am staying within my data plan?
The GPS tracking system 8100 software contains filters that will identify usage. If you wish to upgrade your data plan during the first year contract, you can do so by contacting us.
What is
the warranty for the GPS tracking system 8100?
The GPS tracking system 8100 will come with a one year manufacturer’s warranty.
What kind of reports will I get?
You will be able to create driving reports based upon the data transmitted from the GPS tracking system 8100 as well as stop reports. Stops are identified as duration of 10 minutes or more.
How does the GPS tracking system 8100 compare with other real-time systems?
Most real-time devices transmit data at a minimum of 5 or more, require hard-wiring or have limited battery life. The GPS tracking system 8100 series is completely self-contained and portable, highly sensitive, has the capability to transmit once per second, and was designed under the same standards that makes LandAirSea Systems the leader in GPS asset tracking.
Can I use the GPS tracking system 8100 as a theft recovery system?
Yes. Since the GPS tracking system 8100 has the capability of second by second transmission and geo-fence functionality, this GPS tracking system is a sound choice for theft recovery applications.
