"Desperate times call for desperate measures." This statement has been used to justify both noble and not so noble acts.

Some have used this statement to justify potentially illegal activities for the sake of survival. In the famed musical, "Les Miserables," the main protagonist Jean Valjean was imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread in order to feed his sister's starving child. The antagonist, a police inspector who goes by the name, Javert, has built his sense of morality and ethics on the strict observance to the law. His overly-aggressive adherence to the law, however, leads to internal battle within himself as he attempts to reconcile what's truly right and wrong.

It's Friday and I'm saying to myself as I sit in my cubicle, "Self, there just isn't enough cat content on the internet..."

And before I could let this realization ruin my hopes for a fun-filled weekend, I come across an article about a new study that was conducted on the secret life of cats. Suddenly, I jump back to life and my fears over the lack of cat content on the internet are assuaged. This poignant article describes a study conducted by the BBC, which sought to discover what cats actually did when their human owners were not around. Their findings were nothing short of extraordinary.

Social Media is Watching You

Social media has exploded in the past 5 years. It's not longer just about Facebook and Twitter anymore, people are connecting with others via Google Plus, Pintrest, Tumblr and Instagram.

One of the big reasons for the rise and popularity of social media is the fact that more and more people are ditching their old cellphones and adopting the newest smartphones, such as the iPhone, Droid and Samsung Galaxy S line. Businesses large and small are also beginning to leverage social media to target consumers. It's not uncommon to see ads pop-up on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. It used to bother me a lot when I first started seeing them, but now it's become part of my regular social media experience - I just can't stand it when I accidentally click on some of them.

Choices, Choices

One the hallmarks of living in a consumeristic society is the ability for the general public to choose. This right, however, can also be seen as one of the downfalls of consumerism.

If we're hungry, we have a myriad of choices when it comes to food. We can choose an ethnic preference, such as Chinese, Mexican, or Italian. We can narrow it down further based on genres, such as fast food, casual, or formal. We can narrow our choice it even further based on specific personal criteria, such as organic, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.

However, with all these choices, it's oftentimes difficult to actually come to a decision quickly.
